The children have settled back into the new term wonderfully and have made an enthusiastic start to their learning.
In Science, we have begun our exciting new topic on digestion. The children explored the digestive system using a model to help them understand the function of each organ and how food is processed by the body. They were fascinated to discover the journey food takes through the digestive system.
In Geography, our topic this term is "The UK: Who Are We?" The children have been learning about the countries and regions that make up the United Kingdom. They have developed their understanding that the countries of the UK are divided into smaller areas known as regions and counties.
In Maths, we have been focusing on place value. The children particularly enjoyed creating number lines and using their knowledge to identify and calculate missing numbers.
During Guided Reading, some of the children have started reading The Butterfly Lion. They have thoroughly enjoyed the first chapter and are already eager to find out what happens next.
In English, we have been exploring The Whale and the children have thoroughly enjoyed studying the beautiful illustrations throughout the book. As the story is told entirely through pictures, the children have been developing their inference and comprehension skills by carefully examining the images and discussing what they think is happening. They have also answered a range of questions about the story, using visual clues to support their ideas and interpretations.
We are very proud of how well the children have settled back into school and look forward to another fantastic term of learning.
