Year 3 have had a very busy start to the new year and the Autumn term with lots of wonderful learning happening across our subjects.
In Maths, the children have been learning about partitioning numbers into ones, tens and hundreds to build up a 3-digit number. We have then used our knowledge to do some flexible partitioning across columns.
In English, we have started to look at the story of The Iron Man. We started reading the book to find examples or adjectives and phrases which help us describe the setting or character before we write our own setting and character descriptions.
In Science, we have looked at different types of skeletons before naming the bones in a human skeleton. We have used a branching database to sort the skeleton types which is what we’ve been looking at in our computing sessions. We also measured different human bone pictures to see how long or small human bones can be and put them in size order. We found the smallest bone is in your ear and your largest bone is the femur in your thigh.
As our Geography topic this half term is The Rainforest, we have been looking at what a rainforest is and what animals might live there. We have then used this to start designing a rainforest monster for our DT project which will include a pneumatic system.
