Year 4 have had another busy week! In Maths, the children have been using place value counters to help them understand how to add two 4-digit numbers involving exchanging. In English, they have been exploring newspaper reports and learning about the language and features they use. The children are working towards writing their own newspaper report about the sighting of a marine animal. The children have also been learning how reporters include witness quotes, using inverted commas correctly to report what people have said. To make their writing more interesting for the reader, they used a thesaurus to find synonyms for common words.
In Science, the class investigated food chains, learning about producers, predators and prey. They analysed predator-prey graphs to identify patterns and explain how animal populations change over time. In RE, they have been learning about Islam and exploring why Muslims pray five times each day, understanding the importance of prayer in their daily lives and how it helps them feel connected to Allah.
In Art, they have enjoyed researching and responding to a local landmark, Windsor Castle. They sketched different parts of the castle using charcoal, carefully observing the patterns, textures and shapes of the building. They experimented with different charcoal techniques to create texture.
