The start of term has been very busy in Reception. We have had to learn all the school rules including how to tidy up as a team. On the carpet we have practised listening, following instructions and waiting for our turn to speak. We have also made lots of new friends.

This week, our topic learning focused on parts of the body. We worked together to label the parts of the body on a life size outline. We also draw faces on the computer and matched words to label the features of a face.

In phonics we started our Monsterphonics scheme. We have learnt the sounds and actions for s, a, t, p. We used our phonic skills to hear initial sounds and we sorted objects according to their initial sound. We have practised the letter formation for the letters we have learnt. On Thursday, we tasted different popcorns for our ‘p’ sound and described how each one tasted.

In maths we started the White Rose scheme and have practised sorting and comparing amounts. In addition, we have ordered and matched numbers.

We all love being outside and in our outside area we have worked together to build some giant models using the crates, tyres and wood. At the end of the week, we had our regular bike session in the main playground using balance bikes and pedal bikes.

Have a look at the slideshow below to see us enjoying learning. Reception is great fun!
