Year 1 have had another super week of learning.

We started the week off with a tennis session outside in the sunshine. We really enjoyed learning how to use a tennis racket.

Our science topic is plants and we have been thinking about parts of a plant and identifying different kinds of parents. We used magnifying glasses to look at parts of a plant closely, talking to our friends about what we see and what job each part does. We also sorted plant pictures into wild and garden plants.

In English we are looking at non-fiction books and will be writing our own non-fiction books on African animals. We enjoyed reading non-fiction books and looked for features such as a contents page, index and headings.

In maths we are focusing on numbers up to 50 and being able to identify the tens and the ones in a 2 digit number. We used cubes to help us do this.

This half term our topic is Kenya and we have enjoyed learning about Kenya and how it is different to our life in England. We created some super animal posters showing which animals live in Kenya and I was so impressed with how many animal facts Year 1 knew!

We then created animal fur and feather patterns using water colours in Art. We thought carefully about the pattern and which colours we needed to use.

We have also been busy this week practicing for our class assembly. We had our first visit to Church for a run through and did a fantastic job.
